Just like a bird, this woman was born to sing. A musical note could describe her, however, it is her passionate dedication to vocalization, which enhances her qualities. Naturally modest, of small complexion, almost girlish, Luz Rios not only poses a privileged voice, but a great capacity to compose. It is in each passionate interpretation that we find the artist, but is in the lyrics of her songs where we will find the woman.
Her formative years took place in the beautiful state of Guerrero in her native Mexico, surrounded by her numerous family, and the natural beauty of warm beaches, forest, grottos, and lagoons. A soil abundant in blessings, with exuberant mangoes, papayas, and shellfish, gold, silver, marble, coconut, honey, coffee, and sesame. Luz Rios, just as her native land, was abundantly blessed, with talent and artistic vocation. Those years were fundamental for her artistic instruction, and even though her parents never showed an inclination for music, it was Luz' and her brothers’ favorite pastime.
Luz feels a profound love and respect for music, which is her favorite form of expression, and has been the constant feeling that has enriched her life since an early age. She remembers fondly that when she was a little girl her family owned a small radio, almost ruined, which had to be “shaken” regularly for it to work. It was that little appliance, which made it possible for her imagination to fly away, while she sung along her favorite artists, Pedro Infante, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Javier Solis, Lola Beltran, Juan Gabriel, Joan Sebastian, Ramon Ayala, Marco Antonio Solis y Los Bukis, Rocio Durcal, and of course, don Vicente “Chente” Fernandez.
When Luz Rios was 16 years old, her family decided to leave their ancestors’ home, immigrating to the United States searching for a better future. With the music as a banner, and hope as her guide she arrived in California to study and make her wishes come true. With a lot of efforts, Luz and her brothers started buying various instruments, and formed the musical group “Morelos Show”. Between the responsibility of her studies, and the endless afternoons of rehearsals was that this talented artist discovered the value of discipline and dedication, invaluable lessons that still today, are included in her daily routine.
After three months of hard work, Luz and her brothers were ready to “conquer” the public, devoting all their efforts to become well known. In a short period of time, the “Morelos Show” did just that, becoming a permanent part of the local nightclub scene with fans that followed them loyally. The success of the group convinced Luz that it was the ideal moment to step-over into professional music as a soloist, and with the blessing of her brothers, she proceeded. The road ahead was undoubtedly arduous, but the unconditional support of her family and friends, has always been her inspiration. Besides, and according to her own words, “I’ve had the luck, the blessing of being surrounded by very special people along the way”, “People who care about me, who believe in me, and without that kind of support, an artist can not make it. Each and everyone of them are the most precious treasure life has provided me with”
Luz Rios is a very tenacious woman with the certainty that music is her destiny, and someone who knows a whole lot about talent, Mr. Seth Riggs, shares that sentiment, and developed a special interest in her vocal training after listening to her sing only once. This incomparable professional has worked with the biggest stars of the music business, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Daniela Romo, Jacquie Velazques, Pepe Aguilar, and Julio Iglesias, just to name a few. “Luz Rios is the Latin Streissand,” said Mr. Riggs, “She has a beautiful and seamless voice, effortless, without yodeling or break”.
The same recommendation comes from another widely recognized music professional, the producer Christian De Walden, who has worked with Luz in various projects, and whom has inspired her with his teachings.
Today, Luz is dedicated to her new project, an album dedicated to Mexican music, of which the three first cuts where recorded in Monterrey, Mexico with the famous producer and arranger Gerardo “Quirri” Padilla of Grupo Limite:
1 - "El Chico Aquel" (Author: Marco Antonio Solis)
2 - "Como" (Author: Luz Rios)
3 - "Y Ahora Que" (Author: Luz Rios)
This new project is very special to Luz, because “the Mexican music has soul, it has a lot of reality and honesty”, according to her own words, and her sincere wish is to proudly sing it in every corner of the world.
Now, that you know a little more about Luz Rios, listen attentively to the “revelation voice” of the Mexican music!
